specialties
I work with neurodivergent, queer and trans BIPOC across several areas of care. You can learn more about each below.
body image and eating disorder therapy
I support people navigating eating disorders and disordered eating, particularly when relationships with food and body image are influenced by neurodivergence, gender identity and queerness, and other cultural factors. Examples include:
Unpacking fatphobia specific to the Asian-American community in a culture that celebrates Eurocentric standards
Understanding how executive functioning can affect food-related tasks, how intuitive eating has never fit, and the relationship between thinness and masking in autistic and ADHD clients
Exploring how body image and gender dysphoria can seem like a never-ending loop
I also work with folks who have experienced harm through traditional eating disorder therapy or higher levels of care.
neurodivergent-affirming therapy
I provide neurodivergent-affirming therapy, and specialize in late-discovered autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD adults navigating the grief of the life they might have had with understanding instead of shame. I attend to how neurodivergence intersects with other marginalized identities, compounding shame while limiting access to accommodations and support. Therapy can help make sense of your experiences to build kinder, more sustainable ways of living.
therapy for bipoc folks
I work with BIPOC clients, with a particular focus on Asian-Americans, and first and second generation immigrants. Clients I support are navigating overt and micro-aggressions, intergenerational trauma, emotional dysregulation in their families, and overwhelming guilt rooted in filial piety and parentification. My work also encourages awareness of Asian-American identity in relationship to Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities.
therapy for queer and trans folks
I provide queer-affirming therapy, especially for queer and trans folks who discovered their identities later in life, after growing up in environments where their exploration was stifled to stay safe. Many of my clients grew up in conservative or hetero- and cis-normative environments, and therapy can help explore queer expression and question labels (or not) at your own pace. Particular areas of interest include how gender and body image blend, and intersectional queer identities.
parenting and reparenting therapy
Parenting and reparenting in the context of neurodivergence is often accompanied by competing needs, low spoons, and the constant feeling of playing catch-up. “Parent culture” and expectations can feel like they’re just not for you, or feeling the constant dread of potentially doing something wrong. Parenting therapy addresses compounded generational shame and the impact of growing up without accommodation. I utilize IFS-informed parts work and narrative therapy approaches to support more compassionate parenting for you and your children.
grief therapy and attachment therapy
Grief is not only about death, but about the loss of lives we didn’t get to live, for example:
The shame you may have resisted had you been diagnosed as neurodivergent earlier
The relationships and understanding that could have been, had there been more space for queer acceptance
Clients can explore disenfranchised or disregarded grief and attachment injury, often after relational harm. Sometimes folks say that they recognize their own reactions and no longer feel like themselves. Therapy focuses on clarifying what hurt without minimizing it, and slowly rebuilding trust in your perceptions, feelings, and responses.
perinatal and postpartum therapy
The perinatal and postpartum period can bring about struggles such as difficulty bonding with your baby, sensing it’s more than just “baby blues”, and regret about becoming a parent. My own experience with a painful pregnancy, and then feeling so lonely and isolated through severe postpartum depression led me to seek advanced psychotherapy training through Postpartum Support International. I specialize in infant feeding challenges, breastfeeding/chestfeeding and nursing challenges, and perinatal and postpartum body image concerns.
